Changes in weather resulting in climate change and it's impact:
Animal Extinction
The Last Male White Rhino In the wild, there is no longer any possibility of reproduction for the white rhino as the last male died recently. Our animal population has decreased by 70% since the 1970s and habitats are constantly being destroyed. With re-forestation by ecosia, these habitats may re-emerge but is it fast enough for the animal population? According to this article, the loss of a species increases the chance of losing others. I know it's a bit Jurassic Park, but don't we need to store their DNA somewhere? Create a virtual zoo, evacuate the polar bear from a melting glacier, archive the species we are losing to give us a chance of repopulating them when the world gets a handle on climate change. Prevention of Deforestation
How to Intervene... From the prevention of rainforest destruction for Palm Oil to the education on the impact on animals and the environment, something must be done. I love the new browser, www.ecosia.org who plant a new tree for every search. They also maintain your Google bookmarks and give you a rising count of the number of trees that have been planted! |
Feeding the World!
The Impact of Drought The irony is that with the glaciers melting and the water table rising, temperatures are increasing and crops will increasingly fail due to drought. These ideas may sound stupid but, what non-toxic gas could be introduced to lower the global temperature? Can carbon dioxide be converted back to oxygen by something other than trees? Can we create some kind of air-conditioning that would do have oxygen as a bi-product? Could this same technology be used on chimneys to reduce the levels of pollutants and replace carbon dioxide emissions? Could it also be used on planes to convert carbon dioxide to oxygen, circulate this internally and emit better air quality back to the atmosphere? And finally, most oddly, could humans and mammals evolve to breathe carbon dioxide like trees?!? Incentives for Environmental Good Practice
Impact and Decision Making Why should I be environmentally conscious? What difference does it make? Each individual has an impact on the environment but it really doesn't feel like that in a day to day sense. Blogs on Climate Change |
